The department oversees the coordinates the town’s affordable housing programs and community development activities, including administration of the federal Community Development Block Grant Program. The Housing Director is liaison to town government, the Town of Southampton Housing Authority, and to private development in planning and in planning and development of affordable housing.
The department administers the requirements of Chapter 216 of the town code and manages the town’s Community Housing Opportunity Fund, including the accessory apartment legislation. The Housing Director oversees monitoring and compliance for sales and rentals of Community Benefit units and maintains the Affordable Housing Registry.
The department manages the town inventory of affordable housing, both rental and ownership, and the lotteries that dispense that housing. Please register on our Housing Registry so we can notify you as affordable housing opportunities become available.
Federally funded grants are available for community development projects and improvements in federally designated income areas established by HUD. Not-for-profit agencies providing services may also apply. These grants are competitive and subject to HUD funding approvals.
