Tax Receiver

The Receiver of Taxes is responsible for the preparation, distribution, and payment of more than 51,000 property tax bills in the Town of Southampton. In doing so, the Tax Receiver’s Office ensures the safe custody of the Town’s tax and assessment roll, as well as its tax warrant, from the Suffolk County Legislature. Between the months of December and May, the Tax Receiver’s Office collects more than $300 million in revenues and disburses those funds to Southampton’s:

  • School and library districts
  • Police district
  • Highway district
  • Parks districts
  • Fire and ambulance districts
  • Nine lighting districts
  • Two water districts (Hampton Bays and Riverside)
  • Three erosion control districts

The Tax Receiver also works closely with other town departments, especially the Town’s Sole Assessor and the Hampton Bays Water District, serving as the fiduciary officer. In each of these respective capacities, the Tax Receiver’s Office will process more than 1,500 assessment roll corrections, and handle the Water District’s monthly revenue remittances and bank reconciliations.
