Town Attorney

Town Attorneys advise the Town’s multiple boards, committees, divisions, and departments, as well as its elected representatives. Together they provide advice and representation in both specialized areas of the law, and in matters that span multiple departments and taxing districts. Whether handled in-house, or with assistance from outside counsel, Town Attorneys offer legal resources on topics involving the:

  • Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)
  • Formation and administration of special districts ( fire, ambulance, water, etc.)
  • Creation of planned development districts (PDDs)
  • Development moratoria
  • State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA)
  • Labor and employment matters
  • Bids, contracts, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Drafting local laws, ordinances and resolutions.
  • Prosecution of New York State and Town Code violations in the Town’s Justice Court

Administratively, the Town Attorney's Office also oversees the divisions of

each with the goal of enforcing the applicable state and local laws in their respective areas.
