The Town of Southampton has adopted a ban on single-use plastic bags which will go into effect on Earth Day, April 22, 2015. The new local law is an exciting opportunity to make a significant environmental impact as neighboring municipalities – East Hampton Town, East Hampton Village, Sagaponack Village, Southampton Village, Village of North Haven, and Quogue Village – have all worked jointly to adopt this legislation with the goal of eliminating single-use plastic bags, and encouraging residents to bring their own bags.
The Town invites you to participate in the "We Bag to Differ" public awareness campaign leading up to April 22 that is designed to ensure the public and businesses are well informed about the transition away from plastic bags.
The Town’s Sustainability Committee is planning a series of outreach efforts leading up to and including Earth Day. There are opportunities for interested businesses to participate in these efforts by hosting or sponsoring reusable bag giveaways, posting signage, or distributing literature. If you are interested in becoming involved with this public awareness program, please call 702-2440 or email us at WeBagtoDiffer@southamptontownny.gov.
