PSEG Long Island: Riverhead and Canal Substations

The following construction schedule for the Riverhead to Canal Second 138kV Underground Cable Project is provided by Taihan USA, the prime contractor working on behalf of PSEG Long Island.

Schedule Notes:

o During the week of Monday, April 12, 2021, and Monday, April 19, 2021, crews will be working at the following areas performing restoration tasks:
 Crews will be working in the grassy area south of the Sunrise Highway, capping and backfilling at splice manholes and removing the RCA from the access ways east of Speonk-Riverhead Road interchange. NOTE: Work east of the Quogue-Riverhead Road interchange will require temporary shoulder closures.
 Restoring the access way at Newtown Court in Hampton Bays.
 Planting and seeding along Sunrise Highway.
 The work is planned for daytime hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
 No traffic impacts are anticipated with these activities.

• Shinnecock Canal Bridge Riser Installation, Cable Pulling, Cable Splicing:
o On Monday, April 12, 2021, crews will begin to pull the cables from Splice Manhole 37.5, located within Gate Street/Canal Road West in Hampton Bays, to the riser structure, through the conduits attached to the bridge, to Splice Manhole 38.5, located in Canal Road in Hampton Bays. Crews will use heavy equipment and large spools to complete the work.

o On Thursday, April 19, 2021 crews will begin splicing at Splice Manholes 37.5 and 38.5. Crews will work above ground in a climate-controlled work trailer, and below ground within the splice manhole, completing the splice. The work is continuous for six days, but unobtrusive to the public.

o During the weeks of April 12, 2021 and April 19, 2021, the protective covers for the east and west side will be attached to the riser structures.

o On Monday, April 19, 2021, crews will begin the backfilling and restoration work on Canal Road to allow for the reopening of the road.

 The work is planned for daytime hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).
 Splicing is a continuous activity for six days.
 Full road closures of Canal Road on the eastern side of the Shinnecock Canal will be in place during these activities. Motorists are advised to follow the appropriate detour routes. Emergency services providers, please take notice.
