  3. Youth Court

    November 19, 2018, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM @ Southampton Town Justice Court

    Youth Court is a very popular program and a great way to earn community service credits and build your college resume. Students work together to hold real trials for juvenile offenders, where all the facts of the case are heard and the jury decides on a disposition, or “sentence”, for the offender to repair the harm that they have caused to the victims. Cases range from trespassing, driving without a license, underage drinking to harassment, possession, and theft - among others.

    Any teen in grades 9 - 12 living in the Town of Southampton can participate. Students who are interested in becoming an attorney, improving public speaking skills, learning about the justice system, building their college/job resume or just enjoy community service are invited to join.

    Youth Court meets every Monday, beginning October 15th 2018 from 6:00pm -7:30pm at the Southampton Town Justice Court, 32 Jackson Ave. Transportation is available east of the Shinnecock canal.

    The Southampton Youth Bureau's Chess Club meets every Tuesday at the Drop Spot, 655 Flanders Rd from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Students are taught to challenge themselves, build self confidence, meet new friends, reduce stress, and learn strategy & discipline through the game of Chess. This program is free and open to grades K - 12.

  6. Youth Advisory Committee

    November 20, 2018, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ Hampton Bays Community Center

    If you are in grades 7th through 12th and interested in planning trips and events, doing community service projects, and making friends with students from other schools, then sign up for YAC! The Southampton Youth Bureau is looking for new members to join its Youth Advisory Committee, (YAC) for 2018 – 2019. As a YAC member, you can help make a difference in your community. Community service projects may include leaf raking for senior citizens, hosting a blood drive, meeting with elected officials in Albany for youth causes, participating in a sticker shock alcohol awareness campaign, or other activities that can make a difference in our community. YAC is a great way to get involved and to earn community service credit hours during the school year. Meetings are held every other Tuesday beginning September 25th 2018 at the Hampton Bays Community Center, 25 Ponquogue Ave, 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Transportation is available upon request.     November 21, 2018, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM @ Second Floor Conference Room - Southampton Town Hall

    The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will be co-sponsoring a new program called “Youth and Government” through the Alliance of NYS YMCAs. Youth & Government is a national program that involves teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. Students in grades 9 - 12 will have the opportunity to practice experiential civic engagement and learn about the democratic process. Youth will discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of New York State and will get a chance to deliberate in the chambers of the NYS Legislature at a state conference in Albany.

  11. Act TWO Teen Community Theater

    November 22, 2018, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM @ Hampton Bays Public Library

    The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau is now accepting registrations for Act TWO. Act TWO is a teen theater group that uses drama games and acting in investigating and problem solving. Students will learn using Crime Scene Investigating techniques in how to identify and resolve problems through improvisation, role playing, and group discussion. Skits are created and performed by students in 7th – 12th grade for other youth audiences. Classes are held on Thursdays beginning September 13, 2018 at the Hampton Bays Public Library, 52 Ponquogue Ave from 6:00pm – 7:30pm. Registration is ongoing but required in advance.     The Southampton Youth Bureau will host a Glow Night on Friday, November 30th from 7:30pm – 10:00pm at the SYS Recreation Center, 1370A Majors Path in Southampton. The illuminated gym will feature glow in the dark games such as basketball, Capture the Flag, soccer and more! Event is open to grades 6 – 12 and participants are encouraged to wear white or bright neon colors to see the full effect from the UV blacklights! Admission is $10 per person and transportation is available for $2.
