Town to Participate in Toshiba’s “Close the Loop” Recycling Program

As part of her “A Greener Southampton” initiative, Councilwoman Christine Scalera has now added an easy way for residents to dispose of their old printer, fax and copier toner cartridges. The Toshiba Company partners with Close the Loop, Inc, a zero-waste to landfill recycling program, which allows for 100% recycling of collected consumable supplies such as cartridges, drum units and toner bottles.

“In an effort to encourage the recycling of these products, I wanted to provide residents and businesses with an easy and efficient way to dispose of their old toner cartridges year round,” said Councilwoman Scalera. The Town does allow for these products to be disposed of at the household hazardous waste collection days at the Towns transfer stations, however these collection days are only held four times a year.

The Close the Loop collection program is providing the Town with recyclable collection boxes and supplies, transportation and recycling services for toner bottles, laser cartridges, drum units, toner bags and other bulk imaging items.

Beginning in May, the Town will provide toner recycling boxes at the Hampton Bays Senior Center at 25 Ponquogue Avenue, the North Sea Transfer Station on 1370 Majors Path and at Town Hall located at 116 Hampton Road in Southampton Village, items can be dropped off during regular hours of operation. For more information contact Councilwoman Scalera at 631-287-5745.
