SOUTHAMPTON TOWN INTRODUCES NEW USER FRIENDLY DOCUMENT RETRIEVAL SYSTEM
Southampton Town has opened a new Electronic Documents Center in Town Hall that will make retrieving Town documents as easy as a click of the mouse! Coined eDocs, this interactive web application developed by the Town’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department, will help users retrieve documents from various departments without having to wait on any lines. eDocs will also eliminate the long wait for most FOIL requests for these types of documents. Users have the ability to search via an address, tax map number, name or by navigating the interactive map. Documents are shown by property and are organized by permit. Additional documents not associated with a permit are also available. Once you have identified the documents you are interested in, you can send links to the documents directly to your personal email.
“It’s important to me that people have easy access to government maintained property records”, said Supervisor Jay Schneiderman. “This is why I have been working with the IT department for several months in developing this user friendly interface.”
Unlike the Southampton ePortal subscription service first introduced to the Town in 1999, this service is free. There is no subscription required. But for those interested in performing advanced research, you will also be able to access the ePortal at the Document Center free of charge.
“The new Electronic Document Center is a win-win for both constituents and town staff,” said Ross Baldwin, Southampton Town GIS Manager. “It will alleviate time Town staff spends on document retrieval for FOIL requests and more importantly provide constituents immediate access to Town documents without having to stand in a line or submit a FOIL request.”
