GOOD GROUND PARK, HAMPTON BAYS HELD RIBBON CUTTING AND CELEBRATION
The Southampton Town Board held a “Ribbon Cutting” and “Flag Raising” ceremony at Good Ground Park off Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays on Friday October 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM. Local and State elected officials past and present were there.
On Saturday October 15, the Community participated in a daylong celebration with a preliminary opening of Good Ground Park. The celebration included entertainment and activities planned for the whole family in and around the park’s natural amphitheater. The park then closed down to the public as Phase Two of the park begins to build the Park’s comfort station and children’s playgrounds. A grand celebration is planned for next summer when the 36 acre park officially opens to the public.
The park was first imagined more than 10 years ago when the Town of Southampton purchased the property with Community Preservation Funds for $3.5 million. The State of New York committed nearly $2-million in grants to support the park’s development. Construction began in February 2016.
Good Ground Park sits north of Main Street and is expected to become the cultural center for the business district in Hampton Bays.
