SOUTHAMPTON TOWN WILL HOLD A PUBLIC MEETING ON THE FUTURE DESIGN OF THE HAMPTON BAYS BUSINESS DISTRICT
The public is invited to attend an informational meeting on the future design of the downtown business district of Hampton Bays. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 14th from 6 to 8pm at the Hampton Bays Community Center on Ponquogue Avenue.
The Town of Southampton Planning Department will bring Historic Concepts, an Architectural design consultant, to this initial meeting to begin a “charrette” process that will facilitate the creation of a pattern book for the downtown overlay district, which spans from Springville Road to Ponquogue Avenue and includes Good Ground Road, Main Street and the parcels adjacent to the new Good Ground Park. The “charrette” process involves groups of community members sitting around tables with planning and design professionals to discuss alternatives and preferences for future downtown revitalization. This process will lead to changes in the Town code to assure that design standards and forms are aligned with community expectations.
“We want to make sure that the public is involved in any future design or re-design of the downtown district”, said Supervisor Jay Schneiderman. “This is a great opportunity for the community to help create what the business district could look like.”
