Housing Lottery Conducted For Workforce Housing

A lottery was held at Town Hall on Thursday March 15, 2018 for the opportunity to purchase two newly constructed 3 bedroom/2 bath homes in the Town of Southampton.  There were 252 applicants for the lottery.

Qualified first-time homebuyers met the following initial criteria:

  • A maximum income level, as set by the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Renewal
  • Submit an application to the Long Island Housing Partnership by Feb. 28th
  • Paid a $50 non-refundable application fee.

The homes are located on Moses Lane and Magee Street and will sell for $332,400 The Town of Southampton donated the land.  The homes were constructed under the direction of the Southampton Business Alliance Housing Initiative Corporation.

Approximately 60 applicants attended the lottery, which ranked the 252 applicant’s names to give them an opportunity to purchase the homes. The town board members randomly selected the names.

The Long Island Housing Partnership, a certified HUD counseling agency, will now start the process of qualifying applicants, starting with the number one ranked applicant. All applicants will receive a letter from the Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP) within the next few days confirming their number on the list. The video of the drawing will be available on SEA-TV (22) on Friday. You can also view it on YouTube early next week on seatv southampton

Applicants will be called in their number order to start the qualification process. Those who qualify for a mortgage will be eligible to purchase the homes
