KEEPING IT CLEAN WHILE GOING “GREEN”


Southampton Town is hoping to do its part to reduce pollutants while maintaining our parks. Southampton Town Councilwoman Christine Scalera and the Town’s Parks & Recreation Department are working with Quiet Communities, a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts, to establish a Green Zone at the East Quogue Village Green on Montauk Highway.

CPF WATER PROTECTION FUNDS
VOTERS WILL DECIDE
ON WATER PROTECTION FUNDS


November’s ballot will include a proposition affecting all five East End towns. Voters will decide if 20% of the Community Preservation Fund can be used to improve water quality in our bays and other waterways. The Town recently unveiled its three-tiered plan for utilizing this funding were it to be approved by the voters.

WITH ITS NEW MARINE EDUCATION CENTER


Children will soon have the opportunity to get hands-on lessons on how to save the bays at the new Tiana Bayside Marine Education and Outreach Center. The Town will work with the Cornell Marine Center to create a small shellfish nursery, laboratory, touch tanks, eel and beach grass nursery and amenities to support local visitors interested in learning more about mariculture operations and other ongoing marine programs.

The Town of Southampton runs a great program called the Farm Fresh Food Market. This market doesn’t just sell produce and other artisan type items - it does so much more! The market provides a community with no grocery store in the immediate area, with easy access to fresh produce and other local foods.

ARE HEATING UP THIS SUMMER


The Parks & Recreation Department is having a great season! Parking permit sales were up 12% over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and are up about 2% overall from last year.

We also have five Southampton Town lifeguards who will be teaming up with the Town of East Hampton to represent the East End at the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) National Lifeguard Championship in Hermosa Beach, California. We wish them all good luck!
