Addiction and Recovery/Behavioral Health Committee
The Southampton Town Board voted in September 2021 to create the Addiction and Recovery/Behavioral Health Committee. The new Committee merged the Addiction and Recovery Committee with the Mental Health Committee because often times addiction is considered a mental health problem. In July 2018 the Opioid Addiction and Recovery Committee was created to replace the 42 member Opioid Addiction Task Force that was formed in October of 2017 to address the Opioid Crisis. The Task Force was assigned to come up with recommendations to the Town Board on solutions to the problem. That Draft Report was presented at a Work Session in June 2018. The Addiction and Recovery/Behavioral Health Committee will continue that work. The group meets once a month on the third Wednesday of every month from 4 to 5pm. During the COVID 19 pandemic, the Committee meets through Zoom. The Addiction and Recovery/Behavioral Health Committee is comprised of 15 members of the community as follows: 5 health care professionals, 1 Youth Services professional, 1 educator, 1 community representative, 1 family member of a victim, 1 law enforcement representative, 1 clergy member, 2 Addiction specialists and 2 former members of the Mental Health Committee.
