[ARCHIVED] Town Launches Active Military and Veteran Discount Program

Active Military and Veteran Discount Program_1x1

Southampton Town Councilwoman Julie Lofstad was joined by Councilman Rick Martel, Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer, members of the Veterans Affairs Committee and many local veterans to launch the Active Military and Veterans Discount Program yesterday.

The Active Military and Veteran Discount Program is an initiative between the Town’s Veterans Affairs Committee and local merchants to recognize the service and sacrifices made by our service men and women.  Under the program, veterans discharged under honorable conditions or active members of the military will receive an identification card that can be used at participating businesses.  The merchants who participate agree, at their discretion, to accept and honor the card by providing holders with a discount or benefit on purchases or services, to be determined by each merchant.  Merchants will receive a decal, generously donated by Councilman Rick Martel, to display in their store window.

“Southampton Town is grateful to our military members, past and present, for their sacrifices and this is one way we can all say, thank you,” said Councilwoman Julie Lofstad, liaison to the Veterans Affairs Committee.

“This is a tangible and ongoing thank you to veterans and our military, and will help small businesses in the Town of Southampton,” said William Hughes, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Commander “All American” Post 5350.

“Veterans are loyal and will go out of their way to go to these businesses,” added Veteran Ralph Beaver.

Active Military and Veterans can obtain a card by mail or in person through the Town Clerk’s Office located in Town Hall in Southampton or at the Hampton Bays Annex.  For more information, please visit the website at www.southamptontownny.gov/DiscountCard.  If you would like to enroll your business in the program, contact Jamie Bowden, Southampton Town Community Organization Specialist, at 631-702-2423.
