As the nice weather approaches and trees are beginning to bloom, it is more imperative than ever to ensure that we protect our environment. This Arbor Day, Councilman Rick Martel has organized the 1st Free Tree Seedling Giveaway to provide residents with the opportunity to receive a free native plant or tree. This event will provide over 700 native seedlings to promote the reforestation of our environment in Southampton Town. Native species are important to our environment as they provide shelter and food for wildlife and pollinators. “Southampton has a wide range of scenic areas whether it be open space or our beaches and planting native species is a way for us protect our eco system” said Councilman Martel.
Residents will be able to receive tree seedlings on Saturday, April 30th from 10am-12pm at Good Ground Park in Hampton Bays and the Nathanial Rogers House in Bridgehampton. Councilman Martel and Councilman Schiavoni will be at these locations providing the tree seedlings. While residents are planting trees this weekend, residents can take advantage of free compost and mulch at the North Sea Transfer Station and in Hampton Bays to ensure their gardens and trees stay healthy.
