The Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department announced today that 2023 beach parking permits are now on sale. All permits are available for purchase online through the Town’s website, including full-season resident, senior resident, non-resident, and the Old Ponquogue Bridge Marine Park permits. Permits will be mailed to the applicant upon approval of all required documentation. In-person sales will begin in mid-late April. “Although the Town has begun to transition towards a License Plate Reader (LPR)-based permitting system, patrons can anticipate the permit process to be very much the same as it has in years past, at least for this season,” said Town Parks Director Kristen Doulos.
Last year the Town contracted with Passport Labs, Inc. to furnish and install an integrated parking management system that has since streamlined the sale of beach permits, parking enforcement, citation management, and fine collection into one interactive software system. The Town’s police department began using handheld license plate readers last August, and will deploy vehicle-mounted LPR equipment this summer. The Parks and Recreation Department will begin a pilot project involving pole-mounted LPR cameras at Tiana Beach this season with the goal of eventually installing them at all major beach parking lots in the future.
