New York Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul took a walking tour of Good Ground Park, Hampton Bays, Main Street and visited the Lyzon Hat Shop on Monday August 21st to review the impact of New York State funding on local projects.
The Tour began in Good Ground Park, exited the park through the Cannuscio Trail and traveled west on Main Street to the Lyzon Hat Shop.
“Our Tour of the spectacular Good Ground Park is a visual reminder of how state investment combined with local resources and vision can transform a community, said Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul. “Creating inviting public multi-use space that is linked to a vibrant downtown is a creative strategy that should be replicated elsewhere in the State. I commend local leaders for partnering with the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council to make this a reality,” said Lt. Governor Hochel.
First constructed in the 1850’s, the Lyzon Hat Shop is nearing completion of a total renovation that includes the display of some of the original hats designed by Walter King. At the Hat Shop and the Prosper King House, the Lt. Governor was given an overview of both restoration projects by Brenda Sinclair and Kelly King, President and Vice President of the Hampton Bays Historical Society. Landscaping is being planned for the site and soon the Hat Shop will be opened to the public for visiting.
The Lt. Governor was joined on her tour by Deputy Supervisor Francis Zappone, Parks Director Kristen Doulos, Assistant Town Planning Director Janice Scherer and Hampton Bays Beautification Association President Susan von Freddi.
Ms. Scherer gave the Lt. Governor an overview of the target area and the scope of the planning effort for the downtown area. Lt. Governor Hochel said, “It is clear to me that the community and the Town have thought this effort through very well.”
