Just one month after the launch of the South Fork Commuter Connection ridership has more than doubled in growth. As traffic to the South Fork continues to build on Sunrise and Montauk Highways the train alternative seems to be a more popular way to get to work.
Last week nearly 100 riders used the bus shuttles compared to about 40 during the first week of service beginning March 4th. “We expect those numbers will continue to climb as people discover this alternative solution to sitting in traffic,” said Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman.
The South Fork Commuter Connection costs $4.25 each way and includes the shuttle bus. The schedule features two trains in the morning, the first one originates in Speonk at 6:16am and travels to Amagansett by 7:08am. The second train originates in Hampton Bays at 8:26am and travels to Montauk by 9:25am. There are two afternoon trains that return from Montauk at 2:48pm and 4:50pm. The first train goes to Speonk by 4:14pm and the second afternoon train ends in Hampton Bays by 5:43pm.
In addition, some riders are choosing to walk, bike or have arranged pick up rather than take the shuttle bus to their work destination. To learn more about the schedules and shuttle bus destinations go to www.sfccLIRR.com
