The Town of Southampton Parks and Recreation Department has temporarily closed the fishing and dive piers at the old Ponquogue Bridge while paving work is done on the approach to the south pier.
The Town’s Parks & Recreation Department will be overseeing a project to raise and reconstruct the approximately 400’ deteriorated pedestrian path that connects the parking lot area to the recently renovated south pier of the Old Ponquogue Bridge. The work will include removing existing asphalt, elevating the pathway 10”-12”, installing new large stone, and constructing large concrete curb edging to stabilize and protect the asphalt roadway from unraveling during storm conditions. This project will begin on September 11th and is anticipated to take one month to complete. Access to the fishing piers and diving platform will be closed to the public during that time, but the boat launch area and north pier will remain open.
We understand this is a popular place to fish and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to improve the safety, solvency, and beauty of this beloved location.
The piers were recently rebuilt but paving work to the parking lot and approach to the piers was not completed. During the repaving the boat launch will remain open.
