Councilman John Bouvier attended the General Meeting of the Legislature today where Sister Mary Harvey, a longtime member of the Southampton Town Anti-Bias Task Force (ABTF), was honored by Legislator Bridget Fleming for her services to the community. The ABTF is a comprised of concerned clergy, community members, and members of various human service organizations who are working together to address the issues of prejudice, racism and discrimination in our community.
Last month, the ABTF held a brunch in her honor, where she received both a Leadership and Community Service Award and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Southampton Town Board. “Sister Mary Harvey will be greatly missed in Southampton Town,” said Councilman John Bouvier, liaison to the Task Force. “Her wisdom and compassion have helped so many in our community.” Among her efforts, Sister Mary Harvey advocated for better language access between community members and law enforcement, hospitals and Town Hall.
In addition to her services to the Task Force, Sister Mary Harvey has been a member of the Southampton Town Ethics Board and a founding member of Neighbors in Support of Immigrants, an organization that was formed to help bridge the gap between Latino and non-Latino neighbors.
