Cooling/Charging Center Opened in Hampton Bays
DATE: August 5, 2020
In response to the power outages still outstanding in the Town of Southampton from the effects of Hurricane Isaias, Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has ordered that the Hampton Bays Community Center, located at 25 Ponquogue Avenue, be opened to residents as a cooling center today. Approximately 2,000 customers of PSEG, primarily in the Hampton Bays area, remain without power this morning.
In order to comply with orders issued by the Governor and guidance documents provided by the State and Federal governments, Covid-19 restrictions and protocols will be employed:
- Face coverings must be worn at all times. Masks will be provided if an individual does not have one.
- Social distancing will be observed. The maximum capacity of the Hampton Bays Community Center is 35 individuals using proper distancing. Individuals will be allowed to enter on a first-come/first-served basis.
- Upon entering, individuals will be given a temperature scan, and be asked to sign an attestation form.
Free Wi-Fi will be provided at the center, and charging stations will be available to charge phones, computers, and other electronic devices.
The Hampton Bays Community Center will remain open today until 4:00 p.m. The center will re-open again tomorrow as necessary, if power has not been restored to the area.
