Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Election Day, November 3rd may come sooner for those wishing to vote by absentee ballot or by early voting. The Governor’s Executive order on August 24th requires Counties to be ready to count absentee ballots 48 hours after the polls close. But, State law allows seven days for absentee ballots to be received by mail before a final count can be completed.
Under NYS rules, all voters may apply for an absentee ballot due to COVID-19 fears.
Under reasons for requesting an absentee ballot, however, there is no space for COVID-19.
Voters should check the box that reads: Temporary illness or physical disability.
If you prefer, you can also acquire the form at most libraries and post offices.
Please note: the deadline to submit your application is a postmark date of October 27, 2020. To avoid delays, please mail your application early.
You will receive the official ballot and an envelope to return the completed ballot.
The absentee ballot should be returned to the Suffolk Board of Elections as soon as possible but not later than Nov. 3rd. The address will be clearly stated on the official ballot envelope.
Ballots can also be dropped off at an early voting site between October 24th and Nov. 1st.
Early voting will be available at selected polls, some will have extended and weekend hours.
