[ARCHIVED] Assessors to suspend the renewal application process

Executive-Order300

For Immediate Release
December 23, 2020
Assessors Office
631-283-6020

On Friday, December 18, 2020 Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order 202.83 allowing Assessors to suspend the renewal application process for the RP-467-rnw, Senior Citizen and RP-459c-rnw, Disability with Limited Income exemptions for the 2021 assessment roll, which were previously due on March 1, 2021.  If you received either of these exemptions on the 2020 assessment roll based on your annual income provided during the previous renewal period, the exemption will automatically continue with the 2021 assessment roll.  However, if the Assessor has reason to believe the property no longer qualifies, the exemption will be removed.  If you have already submitted your renewal application, it will be processed accordingly and you do not need to take any further action.  If you have not submitted your renewal application, you are not required to do so.

This Executive Order is for property owners who received the exemption in 2020 and would otherwise be required to renew the Senior Citizen or Disability with Limited Income exemptions.   If it is later determined that the 2021 exemption was granted in error due to a transfer of primary residence, ownership or death, the Assessor may take the necessary steps to pro rate any savings that were not entitled.

Property Owners seeking to apply for an exemption for the first time, must adhere to the application requirements and submit applications by March 1, 2021.

Please feel free to contact the Assessor’s Office with any questions regarding this matter at 631-283-6020.
