This past summer the Town contracted with consultants, Savik & Murray, to explore the potential redevelopment of the Ponquogue Beach Bathing Facility in Hampton Bays. The public was able to weigh in through an online survey process which yielded 1,341 responses, and two public workshops held in September and November that had approximately 150 participants. Respondents overwhelmingly felt that they did not want to see an extensive redesign of the facility but rather, would like to see the current structure upgraded with some improvements.
Some specific items participants asked for that you will see in the most recent design plans were more seating including additional shaded areas, a wider walkway/ramp to the beach, upgrades to the restrooms, additional outdoor showers, improvements to the parking area, enhanced handicapped accessibility, better flow of movement on the pavilion, new fixtures, decking, siding, railings, lighting and benches, and the use of environmentally friendly materials. Following a Work Session presentation with the Town Board on February 16, the consultants and Town staff are now working to address some remaining questions and outstanding matters regarding the project, and anticipate that a draft final conceptual design will be presented to the Town Board in a Work Session around mid-March.
