This week is National EMS Week nationwide. National EMS Week was initiated in 1974 by President Ford as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts and achievements of EMS professionals in our communities. National EMS Week has been consistently promoted and celebrated every year since 1974.
The EMS agencies in the Town of Southampton collectively respond to thousands of calls and provide emergency medical services at countless events annually within the Town. Town residents are protected on a daily basis by the dedicated members who serve in the six volunteer ambulance corps and two fire department-based ambulance companies throughout the Town.
“The Town of Southampton is home to many dedicated and wonderful EMS agencies,” said Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore. “From our dedicated volunteers to our paid first responders, we are proud to have incredible EMS professionals providing the highest standard of pre-hospital care possible to the residents and visitors of Southampton Town.”
Town Code Compliance and Emergency Management Administrator Ryan Murphy said, “The men and women of our emergency services community routinely take time away from their own families to answer calls for help from their neighbors. The service that these members provide is second to none and is a huge benefit to our community. We are very proud of all of our first responders, but we are particularly happy to celebrate and highlight our amazing EMS providers this week.”
EMS Week in Southampton was kicked off with the grand opening of the new Southampton Volunteer Ambulance Headquarters building on Sunday, May 18th. In attendance, and representing the entire Town Board in their support of our EMS community were Councilman Rick Martel and Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara, who were also joined by Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer and an assortment of other federal, state and county officials. The Town Board members all extend thanks to all of the wonderful EMS providers in our community and encourage residents to consider volunteering and getting involved to become part of one of our amazing Southampton Town EMS agencies.
