Town of Southampton, NY April 5, 2024 — The Town of Southampton Fire Marshal’s Office participated in the 3rd Annual Safety Fair hosted by the Southampton School District on April 5, 2024.
Fire Marshals Ryan White, Courtney Idtensohn, Shane Sharkey and Joseph Hernandez attended the event with the Town of Southampton Hazardous Material Unit. The fire marshals were there to talk about the job of being a fire marshal, as well as show off some of the Town’s Haz Mat capabilities and tools.
This event presents a great opportunity for students in the Southampton School District to interact with Fire Service, Police, and EMS personnel in a non-emergency setting. Dispatchers, military and other first responder personnel were also present. Students could learn about career opportunities in the emergency services sector, while also gaining a better understanding of the functions and roles of each agency present.
The Southampton Fire Marshal’s Office has been proudly participating in this event since its inception. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the school district and our fellow first responders in support of this event,” said Fire Marshal Ryan White. “We are part of the Southampton community and appreciate any opportunity to share information about the Fire Marshal’s Office with youth in the community,” White went on to say.
Town Code Compliance and Emergency Management Administrator Ryan Murphy stated that, “We are hopeful that some of the students will consider future careers in Public Safety and Emergency Management. We are also always hopeful that establishing relationships and familiarity with people in non-emergency settings will lead to greater success and more positive outcomes in the event that we have to encounter them in an emergency.”
The Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s Office is part of the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management. The mission of the Fire Marshal’s Office is to protect life and property through fire safety inspections and fire prevention education and activities. The Division works with the fire service within the Town of Southampton and our communities to reduce injuries, the frequency of fires and the damage caused by fire.
