The Oceanfront Renourishment Project is scheduled to commence sand pumping around January 20. Operations will be conducted continuously, seven days a week, weather permitting.
The initial phase will take place at the eastern section in Sagaponack, progressively moving westward to the town's western boundary, just beyond Flying Point Beach. Beach access will generally remain available, except within the approximately 1,000-foot area where bulldozers are actively working.
The dredging process will involve the transfer of over 1.3 million tons of sand to the beach, a task anticipated to span at least two months. Crews are working against a deadline of March 31 to ensure completion before the implementation of protection measures for piping plovers restricts activities along the oceanfront.
